Calgary to Banff: the short version
Banff is about 128 km west of Calgary. Calgary International Airport (YYC) is about 144 km from the park, so count on roughly 1.5 to 2 hours on the road. That is a planning figure, not a guaranteed transfer time. Stops and weather add to it.
Three options cover most trips: your own car, the Banff Airporter from the airport, and the Brewster Express coach. The On-It bus from Calgary through Canmore to Banff is not running in summer 2026, so do not plan around old weekend fares.

Johnston Canyon is closed until 11 December 2026, so check the line 9 timetable before you go.
